THINGS TO DO IN CHICAGO
Hi there! Today, folks, I’m reviewing some of the most exciting and entertaining things we can do over the weekend in Chicago.
The Windy City is loaded with lots of entertainment and places to visit.
It is a good idea to plan your weekend in such a way that you get the most fun out of it.
Here we go!
To me, as the city has way too many options to choose from, the first thing to do is define your interests.
Are you into sports? Do you want to go shopping in Chicago. Maybe you have small kids or want to visit some eateries, see shows or listen to good live music. Chicago offers options for everyone! You know come and also visit our garage door repair office – I’m kidding!
This May, tons of hot stuff is going on around town. Check some of these that I recommend:
BIKE THE RIDE
For a great kickoff to summer this Sunday, May 27, don´t miss Bike the Drive event at Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive. It will be cleared of traffic to enjoy hours of care-free driving.
Come and celebrate that the city was recently named the #1 bicycling city in America by Bicycling magazine.
All the money collected will go into improving biking, walking, and transit throughout Chicagoland.
IF YOU’RE MORE INTO MUSIC
Come to Millennium Park, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, to have fun from 1 to 9 pm on May 26, during the Chicago House Music Festival.
Listen to the musical style that is revolutionizing dance music around the world. Best of all admission is free!
But, if you are into something more classic, a visit to the Green Mill is a must to enjoy the talent of awesome orchestras playing ageless pieces from the immortals.
From Jazz, Blues, piano solos, and much more, every night is exceptional at the Green Mill.
TO ENJOY DAZZLING FIREWORKS AT NAVY PIER
This area is your destination for spectacular fireworks by Lake Michigan.
The fantastic display is perfectly synchronized to music on Lake Michigan. It will be happening bi-weekly, every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A fantastic option is to see the fireworks aboard an evening cruise offered at Navy Pier.
FOR THOSE WHO LOVE TO EAT
What better place than Chicago for gastronomes during the James Beard Foundation Awards?
The ceremony grants what’s been called by Time Magazine the Oscars of the food world. This year, on May 7, at the Civic Opera House, the country’s top chefs, restaurateurs, food media and culinary enthusiasts will gather to celebrate and eat the best food in the country. You’re invited to the event too!
OPEN MARKET SHOPPING WHEN BARGAINS ARE YOUR WEAKNESS
If you like unique shopping with all its bargains, haggling and bargaining in an international atmosphere, then Maxwell Street Market is a must-go place for you. It is open from 7 to 3 pm on Sundays.
Every Sunday, all year-round, Maxwell Street is there to offer you a mix of merchandise, Mexican and Latin street food as well as Mariachi music. This area has been the unconventional business center of Chicago for some 100 years and a favorite of those who want to enjoy a colorful weekend while shopping.
IF BASKETBALL IS YOUR THING
Then you don’t want to miss the NBA draft lottery and combine that is taking place in Downtown Chicago this year.
The annual ping-pong ball extravaganza will be conducted on May 15 for the first time outside of New Jersey or New York. It will streamline the process with the annual draft combine, which has been held in Chicago since 1985 and will take place May 16-20 this year.
Hope these notes help you enjoy your time around Chicago, fellas!
