FREE THINGS TO DO IN CHICAGO IN SUMMERS
Hello again, fellas! This summer Chicago events calendar is packed with plenty of free options where having fun is a top priority.
As the cold weather recedes and patios and rooftops open, the warm weather sets up, and people start emerging from hibernation. It´s time to begin thinking how to save some money for summer fun so you can make most of the fun season.
The month of May in the Windy City is loaded with activities to keep you busy, and the best part is that many won’t cost you a penny. Yes, that´s right, folks!
Sure, undeniably, Chicago is a city where entertainment is expensive, but it’s also a place to experience some fantastic attractions and events without having to break the bank.
You don’t need to look very hard to find venues that offer free things to do and enjoy like parks, some museums and other places that host free shows.
Free concerts, art exhibitions, dance parties, outdoor festivals and many other exciting happenings are waiting for you free of charge around town. So plan May carefully to take advantage of what the city has to offer.
GO RUN TIMED-RUN SERIES
Let’s run together if you’re the kind of guy who enjoys having an active lifestyle through running, jogging, walking or racing. From seasoned runners to newcomers, families and even children, everyone is invited to take part in these events.
The activities are free, but you need to register online anyways. The events take place on Saturdays, beginning at 9 am, in Humboldt Park, Warren Park, and Washington Park. They are 5K and one-mile runs.
SWITCH ON SUMMER, MUSIC TO CELEBRATE THE COMING OF THE SUMMER SEASON
The cold winter is gone and you are now craving for some outdoor music. Chicago offers tons of options for music lovers, including those who are into discovering new music without having to spend a dollar.
If you are a party animal, the Chicago House Party is the place to be. Be sure you are at the Jay Pritzker Pavillion on May 26. They will have amazing DJs and jawbreaking live performances ready to show you how House music is supposed to be made and enjoyed.
June will also be choked full of options for music lovers. There will be Gospel, jazz, classical and blues festivals. And of course my favorite, the World Music festival that will take place all over the city for eleven days. 650 artists from all over the world will be showcasing their unique compositions and styles. Definitely something I would not miss for the world.
THE SKOKIE FESTIVAL OF CULTURES
What a charming event! A true celebration of life and diversity, it will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, from 11 am to 7 pm at Oakton Park in Skokie.
The area is just 15 miles or 24 km to the north-east of Chicago. It takes about 24 minutes driving time in good traffic to arrive there from Chicago. Luckily this place is not far off from our Chicago garage door repair office.
No question about it, this festival is first among ethnic festivals in Illinois. It attracts more than a half-a-million visitors and dozens of cultures, all of which represents Skokie’s cultural diversity.
Since 1991, the festivities include the free ‘Tour of the World,’ to enjoy a weekend of folk music, dance, great international food and beer, arts, crafts, and different displays and booths.
LINCOLN PARK ZOO
The zoo is a place where you can spend the day and see not only the animals, some 1,200 specimens, but also participate in the many special events the place hosts all year round.
From outdoor yoga classes to the Summer Wine Festival to Craft Brews at the Zoo to kids activities, plenty of activities are waiting for you. Free!
This Zoo, one of the last free zoos in the country, connects visitors with its inhabitants in the thirty-five-acre extension of parkland. People keep coming back as the families have free access to many seasonal events and programs.
